The Role
We are looking for candidates who are interested in a career in technology to join us as Junior developers.  After our software development and consultancy training, consultants will join one of our projects to help us deliver the latest generation of digital online services for one of our public or private sector clients. We have a number of exciting projects across a number of sectors including travel, finance, government and we also work with leading edge start-ups. Our projects are delivered either from our offices in Aldgate or from our client’s offices.

About you..
Candidates should have some academic or commercial programming experience and have a genuine interest in technology.
We are looking for people who have a background in critical thinking, enjoy tackling different problems in a structured way and are highly motivated self-starters.  Our consultants should have great interpersonal and communication skills and a strong desire to deliver the best possible solutions for our clients.

More about the role …
The job will be based in Aldgate and sometimes on client site depending on the project. You have experience in software development projects, preferably with a computer science or Maths based degree. As part of the interview process we would like to discuss examples of previous projects you have completed in Java, Python, Ruby or C#.
Main duties 
You’ll be:
  • After training, working as a Java, Python, Ruby or C# developer on one of our client projects
  • Moving onto other client work (typically after 6 months to a year)  
  • Responsible for developing features, fixing bugs, updating applications to comply with government standards
  • Working as part of a larger time, learning from a senior developer within the team. 
  • Helping with Solirius internal applications or other work when possible
  • Working closely with clients to understand their needs and working with the Solirius team whilst on client site 
  • Helping us to grow our software engineering practice
Specialist skills required
  • Scientific or technical degree, or a relevant professional qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Some experience in software development, using Java, Python, Ruby or C# (and related technologies)
  • Understanding of common programming models (client/server, web based, integration)
  • Some understanding of DevOps technologies (such as git, Docker, jenkins, travis) 
  • Understanding of development methodologies, such as Agile and Waterfall
  • Good grasp of relational or non-relational databases (have used mysql, postgres or mongo DB)
  • Understanding of web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc. and how they fit together)
  • Some knowledge of cloud computing (Azure, AWS or GCP)
The following would be a bonus:
  • Experience of other languages and programming paradigms

  • Evidence of thinking about software development at a deeper level
